Both protein-bound hormones exist in reverse equilibrium with minute amounts of free hormone, the latter accounting for the metabolic activity.

I have been taking Tiros 50 for years, and now I am showing a low T4 (.63) and a low TSH (.04). Someone told me that taking Tiros 50 only could cause this. Is this true? I can’t see my doctor for a month and these results concern me.

Thyroid preparations may potentiate the toxic effects of digitalis. Thyroid hormonal replacement increases metabolic rate, which requires an increase in digitalis dosage.
